Neotropical lichen genera pictures |
Cladina spp.
Ecuador, 2001, photo H. Sipman.
The genus Cladina includes soil lichens of very nutrient-poor, acid sites with scarce
vegetation. They seem to prefer rather stable situations and are less common on
road banks. The thallus is fruticose, densely branched, with some shade of green
or grey. It lacks a cortex and the surface is dull.
The systematic position of
the group is unclear and it might better be treated as a part of the genus
Cladonia.
