The Arnold
Arboretum of Harvard University, Jamaica Plain,

designed by the Arboretum's first director, Charles
Sprague Sargent, in collaboration with the landscape
architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. Begun in 1872 and named

National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) World Wide Web

Botanic Gardens - Mt Coot-tha, Mt Coot-tha Rd, Toowong,
Brisbane, Australia. The Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt
Coot-tha, officially opened in 1976, is situated in the
Queensland state capital, 8km from the city centre.
The 52 hectare complex contains an extensive collection
of native and exotic plants as well as an administration
centre, a botanical/horticultural library, an education
centre, a botanical laboratory, a 300 seat auditorium,
the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium and the Queensland

Royal Tasmanian
Botanical Gardens Appeal, Australia. The Royal
Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Australia are under threat
from the Armillaria luteobubafina fungus, which is a type
of root rot endemic to Australia. The gardens, which were
established in 1818 have already lost 33 trees since the
problem was diagnosed in March 1994. The entire gardens
may be devastated unless a solution is found soon.

Bronx, New York, USA. One of New York's 32 City-owned
cultural institutions, Wave Hill is a 28-acre public
garden dedicated to fostering the dynamic
inter-relationship between natural processes and human
culture.
William
Paca Garden, Annapolis, Maryland, USA. The mission of
the William Paca Garden is to stimulate public support
for preservation by maintaining an historically accurate,
pre- Revolutionary, urban garden reconstruction and by
assembling, documenting, and propagating a living
collection of period plants as a central part of the
environmentally sensitive garden exhibit. The adjacent
Middendorf Conservation Center promotes the preservation

W.J. Beal
Botanical Garden is one of the principal centers of
plant interest within the arboretum-like campus of
Michigan State University. More than 5,000 different
