Digital imaging at the Senckenberg Museum

[Presentation]

Digital imaging at the Senckenberg Museum started 10 years ago with the very first CD-ROM recording of professional still photographs and digital microradiographs. Meanwhile various digital devices (e.g. dig. microscope, SEM, Laser-Printer) have been established with the intention to completely replace conventional imaging by digital imaging. The main purposes for publishing are not only to provide a cheap digital copy of printed media but also to provide better versions of images (ref. resolution, size and colour) in electronic books compared to printed ones.

The scientists according to their specific projects and collections sample data of digital images. Large digital catalogues are created in some of our departments, and in future digital images will be a part of the collection management system.
