[Poster presentation]
NYBG's most recent botanical information project is the imaging of herbarium specimens. High-resolution images are acquired using an instant capture professional digital camera. After capturing, images are processed in an automated fashion using Adobe Photoshop®. Processing includes naming, correcting the contrast and colour, sharpening, and creating different versions of the images. A version at the original resolution is archived to DVD, while mid-resolution and thumbnail versions are created for our online specimen catalogue (http://www.nybg.org/bsci/hcol/). Future enhancements to the display of specimen images include the use of wavelet compression technology to increase file compression, transmission speed, and image quality.
